Marketing Intern Job Description - Unpaid
The New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting issues permits for film and television production in New York City and markets the City as a location for entertainment production. The agency seeks marketing interns for the fall semester, three month commitment required.
The intern's duties will include:
Researching and maintaining information for website; lists of contacts for essential production services in the City; and databases of New York City productions
Research and maintaining lists of film festivals and other entertainment industry events in the City
Assisting in preparation for fall events at cultural institutions across all five boroughs to celebrate the agency's 40th anniversary and launch of the agency's book
Fact checking information on local businesses which offer discounts to the entertainment industry, and outreach to local businesses to encourage participation in the "Made in NY" discount card program
Assisting in direct marketing campaigns to the entertainment industry
Organizing and inputting photos and information about City-owned properties available for production
Running errands and other administrative tasks
Required skills include:
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook/Excel/Access/Powerpoint
Ability to complete projects quickly, accurately and with attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple projects at one time
Excellent organizational and research skills
Ability to work within a collaborative environment
Pleasant phone manner

BECOME A CENTER INTERN!
Communications Intern:
You will gain familiarity with marketing, promotion and research. Your work will range from general office duties to collaborating on promotional strategies for the Center. Other responsibilities may include creating research resource material, assisting in database and website maintenance, and answering phones. Interns are also expected to help out at seminars and do promotion for all Center for Communication activities and events.
- Availability: Interns must be available at least 2 full days per week, for 10 weeks. You will be required to work at least one evening per week at a seminar.
- Students with relevant majors (communications, journalism, film, etc…) or a strong interest in media are preferred.
- Academic credit may be arranged.
- Stipend provided upon completion of internship.
Event Support Intern:
Must attend all Center for Communication events and provide support to the Center staff. Duties may include signing guests in, setting up and other miscellaneous tasks that may be required to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Production Intern:
Center for Communication seminars are filmed and edited in-house and appear weekly on local New York television. This is a wonderful opportunity for a good team player who is interested in getting involved in media and/or production/post. We are preferably looking a student or recent graduate who has focused their studies in film, video production, media studies, and new media.
The Production Intern will be responsible for being a production assistant on these shows and assisting in the editing as well. The shows must have a fast turn around from when they are filmed to edited to printed, as they are then sent out to NYC-TV and MNN. We need someone who knows Final Cut Pro has worked with Macs. A plus but not essential is the ability to work with Motion or After Effects to help us create our introductions for the show.
Unlike most internships, you will not be sitting around on the internet or getting coffee, etc. You will be thrown into the fire so to speak and we expect good, solid work from you. Please have your resume copy and pasted in the email and not attached. Also, tell you us something about yourself that lets us know who you are, what your background is, and what you bring to the table. Interviews will commence in the following two weeks.
The internship can be used for school credit or you will be given a small stipend at the end of the TEN WEEK internship. If we find you irreplaceable, we may just hire you!
Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in MAC programs including, Final Cut Pro.
- Knowledge of production, including, but not limited to Lighting and Audio.
- Strong or working knowledge of post-production programs including Adobe Photoshop, AfterEffects, Soundtrack Pro and Adobe Illustrator.
- PC Literate, with strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Access and Excel. Knowledge of Quark useful.
- Knowledge of HTML a plus. Some general website editing may be required.
